AceShowbiz - During her acceptance speech for the AFI Lifetime Achievement Award in April, Nicole Kidman expressed her gratitude to the directors who have "taken a bet" on her throughout her career. Now, she has shared her wish list of filmmakers she's yet to work with.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, Kidman named Martin Scorsese as her top pick, but only if his film involves women. "I'd love to work with Kathryn Bigelow, Spike Jones, PTA [Paul Thomas Anderson], and Michael Haneke," she added.
Despite Scorsese's predominantly male-centric filmography, he has directed films with female leads in the past, such as "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore", "Boxcar Bertha" and "New York, New York". However, in 2019, he faced criticism for the lack of female presence in his film "The Irishman".
When asked about the absence of women in his films, Scorsese stated, "If the story doesn’t call for it … it’s a waste of everybody’s time."
Kidman also expressed her support for female directors. "I’m trying to support all of these women at all different ages, at all different stages in their careers, put my weight behind them and go, ‘I’m here and I’m at your disposal and I’m ready,' " she said.
