AceShowbiz - Sophie Turner, best known for her role as Sansa Stark on "Game of Thrones", has revealed the personal struggles and motivating factors that led her to move back to the U.K. following her divorce from Joe Jonas. In a candid interview with Harper's Bazaar, the 28-year-old actress shared her deep sense of homesickness and personal safety concerns that influenced her decision.
Turner, originally from Northampton, lived in the U.S. with her now ex-husband Joe Jonas and their two daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, two. She revealed that every city they moved to in America, she sought out British shops to maintain a connection to her homeland. "Every city we ended up in, the first thing I'd do was find a British shop and stock up on a month's worth of chocolate," she confessed. The separation added to her longing for home, especially as she missed significant life events with friends and family during her six-year stay in the U.S.
One of the key reasons Turner decided to leave the U.S. was the escalating gun violence and the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which had provided women the right to an abortion. "The gun violence, Roe v Wade being overturned... Everything just kind of piled on," she explained. These factors compounded her feeling that she wasn't truly herself until she returned to London.
Following her return to the U.K., Turner has found renewed success both professionally and personally. She has taken on the lead role in the ITV crime series "Joan, where she portrays a single mother navigating life in the criminal underworld. The actress found the role deeply transformative, resonating with her own experiences of motherhood. "Before I had kids, I was very depressed and anxious, and I would isolate [myself] a lot. Now, I think I live my life for them," she reflected.
Additionally, Turner has moved on in her personal life, finding love with British aristocrat Peregrine Pearson. The couple went Instagram official in September, sharing intimate glimpses of their relationship that delighted fans. "I'm so happy to be back. It felt as if my life was on pause until I returned to England," Turner emphasized.
Turner's insights and experiences highlight her resilience and determination to create a safe, fulfilling life for herself and her children. Her story is an inspiring tale of a young mother prioritizing her well-being and embracing new beginnings back home.
