AceShowbiz - Actress Awkwafina has shared her heartbreak over the passing of her friend, Regina Biondo, who died of cancer at age 42.
In a moving Instagram post, Awkwafina, known for her role in "Crazy Rich Asians," expressed her grief over saying goodbye to her close friend. Biondo, a web developer and occasional DJ, passed away earlier this month at the age of 42 due to cancer.
"Today I said goodbye to a best friend in a loss so heartbreaking it is difficult to explain in words," Awkwafina wrote. "None of us were ready to have lost you Regina, and I still feel like texting you and calling you, asking you for advice or eating bomb ass Asian food with you."
Despite the overwhelming sadness, Biondo's life was celebrated with a dance party on October 26, attended by those who knew and loved her. As stated in the invitation, "Be prepared for a night filled with iconic DJs and non-stop dancing."
Awkwafina is no stranger to grief, having lost her mother to pulmonary hypertension when she was just 4 years old. In a previous interview with PEOPLE, she revealed how humor helped her cope with the loss. "I was the class clown all the way," she said. "I think all the time, what would I have been doing if my mom hadn't passed? I don't think I'd be here because I think that I had to face a certain level of trauma to be so joyously self-deprecating and so free."
Through her own experiences with grief, Awkwafina has expressed her deepest condolences to Biondo's partner and friends. "We honored her journey, creating a sacred space for her transition," they wrote in an Instagram post announcing her passing. "We are currently processing and handling the necessary steps, and we will keep you updated on the details for her memorial and celebration."
As Awkwafina mourns the loss of her friend, she holds onto the memories and awaits the possibility of seeing her again one day. "I feel you all around me still, and wish you didn't have to go. I will keep you in my heart forever," she wrote. "Until then, regi -rest well."
