AceShowbiz - Hoda Kotb, the beloved co-host of the "Today" show, got candid about her decision to leave after a celebrated 26-year career at NBC. Kotb's decision, which she described as both "scary" and "exactly right," has sparked a wave of reactions and conversations among her audience and peers.
During an October 25 episode of "Today with Hoda & Jenna", Kotb opened up about the emotions surrounding her departure. "When those twinges come up, like, 'Should you do it? Is it a mistake?' … I remind myself that there's still part of me that's living right here. And that's normal. Like, let it be. So yeah, it's scary. Yeah, it's terrifying - it's all those things … but it's also exactly right," she shared.
Kotb elaborated that her decision wasn't driven by fatigue from her early mornings or dissatisfaction with her work. Instead, it stemmed from a profound desire for a new adventure.
"It wasn't the work, it was the idea that somewhere there was supposed to be a new adventure for me… Whenever I made a leap, a move, a jump, it was like I'm falling in love," she explained. This sentiment highlights her anticipation of what's to come, even if it comes with uncertainty and fear.
As Kotb reflected on her career and personal life, she admitted that turning 60 played a pivotal role in her decision-making process. Speaking with PEOPLE magazine, she revealed, "I've had yearnings, and you know when something's pulling you? It's like you either go toward it or you shove it down and say, 'Nope, this is the way. I'm going to stay here because it's safe.' "
This introspection led her to prioritize spending more quality time with her daughters, Haley, 7, and Hope, 5.
Despite her decision to leave, Kotb expressed deep affection for NBC and her work. "When you love something, like I love NBC, my work, it is hard to say goodbye to it because it doesn't make sense," she said.
However, she recognized that she had reached a peak in her career and it felt like the right moment to explore new opportunities. "Once that feeling hits you, it's like this is it. I don't want to spend the rest of my days trying to recreate the top of the mountain. It was glorious. It was unforgettable," Kotb noted.
Looking ahead, Kotb has ambitions to explore the wellness space and other new ventures. While NBC executives are working on ways to keep her connected with the network, her announcement has undeniably marked the end of an era. Kotb's courageous decision to embrace change serves as an inspiring reminder of the importance of growth, adventure, and family.
