It's the end of an era for 'Outlander' fans as Sam Heughan sheds light on the final season's production and what lies ahead for our favorite time-traveling couple.

AceShowbiz - Sam Heughan, who plays Jamie Fraser on the historical drama "Outlander", has revealed that the show's final episode has been filmed. Heughan made the announcement during the Happy Sad Confused podcast's 10th-anniversary celebration in New York City on Thursday, October 17.

"We finished two weeks ago," Heughan said. "We shot our final episode - eight seasons, 101 episodes, 11 years."

However, the actor cautioned that the series is still a long way from airing its final season. Heughan added that he will return to work on Monday for pickup shots.

The eighth and final season of "Outlander" currently does not have a release date. When it was announced that the show would end after season 8, Starz president of original programming Kathryn Busby expressed the network's commitment to bringing Claire and Jamie's love story to a proper conclusion.

Season 7, part 2 of "Outlander" finds the Frasers and their companions navigating the perils of the Revolutionary War and facing new enemies across time. The synopsis promises that Jamie and Claire's marriage will be tested like never before.

Season 7, part 2 of "Outlander" premieres on Starz on Friday, November 22, while a premiere date for the eighth and final season has not been announced yet.
