AceShowbiz - Real estate mogul Mauricio Umansky and his sister, Sharon Umansky Benton, have filed for a conservatorship over their 81-year-old father, Eduardo Umansky. The August 14 filing asserts that Eduardo is unable to care for himself.
In a petition, Mauricio and Sharon allege that Eduardo's girlfriend has become controlling, limiting his social interactions, and attempting to marry him despite their long-term relationship. They further claim that she has taken advantage of Eduardo's vulnerabilities, misappropriating over $260,000 through undue influence or fraud.
Despite Eduardo's signature consenting to the conservatorship, the petition also alleges that he has written over $260,000 in checks to his girlfriend for unexplained reasons and that another $100,000 is unaccounted for.
According to the petition, Eduardo has an annual income of $200,000 and $20,000 in personal property, but no real estate assets. The siblings indicate that Eduardo does not have a developmental disability but is unable to manage his personal needs or financial resources effectively.
The family has a court date scheduled for the end of October, where Eduardo is expected to appear. The judge will determine the validity of the conservatorship request based on the allegations presented.
Umansky's decision to pursue conservatorship highlights concerns for his father's well-being and aims to protect him from potential exploitation.
