AceShowbiz - Hoda Kotb shocked "Today" fans when she announced her departure in the Thursday, September 26 episode. A new report has now revealed why the veteran TV host was so adamant in exiting the show and no sum of money would be able to change her mind.
A source reveals to Daily Mail that while Hoda's two young daughters are indeed one of the biggest reasons behind her decision, the TV personality has another reason. The other reason allegedly involves her former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford.
Hoda's chemistry with her current partner Jenna Bush Hager allegedly isn't as big as she shares with Kathie Lee. Hoda also hopes to find a new man after exiting the show, just like Kathie Lee.
"Yes, it's about her girls and being able to walk them to school," the insider shares, referring to Hoda's children Haley (7) and Hope (5). "But also she's seen how rich a life Kathie Lee Gifford has lived since quitting. She's had a boyfriend, written a play, books, music, she even wrote and starred in a movie. Kathie Lee is happier than ever before."
A second source echoes the sentiment. "It was never really the same after Kathie Lee left - they had the best chemistry together on the show," the insider explains. "Hoda adores Jenna of course, but the reality is Jenna is not a seasoned veteran like Hoda is."
"Hoda held her hand through all of that, and would constantly reassure her, and they have become close, almost like a mom and daughter duo at work. Jenna has looked up to Hoda like a mentor," the source adds.
Hoda announced her departure from "Today" after 26 years with NBC. Through tears, the 60-year-old shared, "I realized that it was time for me to turn the page at 60, and to try something new." Noting that she wanted to dedicate more of her time to her family, she said, "I was thinking that they deserve a bigger piece of my time pie that I have."
Hoda, however, emphasized her intent to remain part of the NBC family in an unspecified role. She expressed gratitude towards her colleagues and fans, stating, "I've been weighing this decision for quite a while - Am I truly ready? But, my sixtieth birthday celebration on the Plaza felt like a shift. Like a massive, joyful YES, you are!"
