Get ready for a nostalgic horror rush as Freddie Prinze Jr. has been booked to reprise his iconic role in the upcoming sequel to the 1997 hit, 'I Know What You Did Last Summer'.

AceShowbiz - Freddie Prinze Jr. has officially signed on to star in the long-awaited sequel to "I Know What You Did Last Summer," reprising his role as Ray Bronson. The announcement marks a return to the horror franchise for Prinze, who starred alongside Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Ryan Phillippe in the 1997 original and its 1998 sequel.

Hewitt is currently in negotiations to reprise her role as Julie James while the new cast includes Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, and Jonah Haur-King.

Jennifer Kaytin Robinson ("Do Revenge") will direct the film from a script she co-wrote with Sam Lansky, based on a draft by Leah McKendrick. Neal Moritz will return as the producer.

Plot details for this latest installment are still unknown. The original film, loosely based on the Lois Duncan novel of the same name, followed four friends who covered up a fatal car accident and were haunted by a hook-wielding killer a year later. It became a box office success with $125 million worldwide.

Prinze has revealed that his experience on the original film was marred by tensions with director Jim Gillespie, who allegedly wanted to cast Jeremy Sisto in his role. Despite the challenges, Prinze said the experience prepared him for the industry's "lesser A-holes."

The "I Know What You Did Last Summer" franchise has spanned multiple sequels, including the straight-to-video "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" and a TV series on Amazon Prime. Sony Pictures will release the new sequel in theaters on July 18, 2025.
