AceShowbiz - Scott Cohen, widely recognized for his role as Max Medina in "Gilmore Girls," recently shared the harrowing experience he and his wife, Anastasia Traina, went through during a high-speed car chase that turned their world upside down. The incident, which took place in Brooklyn this past summer, left the couple unsure if they could make it alive.
The crash occurred on June 29 when the couple's car was hit head-on by a suspect fleeing the police. "We thought we were dead," Cohen revealed to Page Six at HBO's "The Penguin" premiere in New York City.
Traina was left with serious arm injuries while Cohen was left with a permanent injury as he suffered from multiple broken bones including a broken sternum - a nonunion break that doctors say will never heal completely.
The car chase had originated from a routine traffic stop in Astoria, Queens, as reported by The Astoria Post. The suspect fled, leading police on a pursuit that ended disastrously in Brooklyn when he collided with Cohen's vehicle. The suspect's car burst into flames, and he exchanged gunfire with police officers before fleeing on foot. It remains unclear if he was eventually captured.
Cohen took to Instagram to share his ordeal, posting images of himself in a hospital bed and the wreckage of their car. Reflecting on the incident, he wrote, "life can change in an instant." Despite their injuries, the couple received immense support from friends and family, which Cohen gratefully acknowledged.
"I'm very pissed my existence right now is about healing but at the same time truly grateful @afunnybunnypicture and I are both here to experience the love and incredible generosity of friends and family," he expressed.
Remarkably, Cohen and Traina were able to attend the New York City premiere of "The Penguin," a spinoff from "The Batman" currently streaming on Max. Cohen, who stars as Luca Falcone in the series, found a silver lining amidst the chaos. "My entire childhood, I dreamed of being Superman, being Batman," he shared. "Those were my dreams. Like when I was really young. And then I got a chance to do some."
Cohen's reflections on this traumatic event serve as a poignant reminder of life's unpredictability. Despite the physical and emotional toll, he emphasizes the importance of resilience and community support in the face of adversity.
This October, Cohen will be channeling his experiences into a weekend workshop on acting in New York City, aiming to inspire and make a lasting impact on others. "To me, television is about impact," he said, underscoring his passion for the craft and his desire to touch lives through storytelling.
