AceShowbiz - Netflix announced the casting news at their annual Geeked Week fan event, revealing that Miya Cech will play the fan-favorite earthbender. A clip released as part of the event provides a first glimpse of Toph as she demonstrates her earthbending abilities.
The 17-year-old Cech is best known for her roles in the Netflix films "Always Be My Maybe" and "You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah", as well as Nickelodeon's short-lived series "The Astronauts".
In the original "Last Airbender" animated series, Toph was introduced in Book 2 as a blind but powerful earthbending prodigy from a wealthy and overprotective family. She joins Aang and his companions in their quest to master the elements and defeat the Fire Lord.
Netflix renewed "The Last Airbender" live-action adaptation for two additional seasons following the success of its first season. The show, which concludes with its third season, features a cast that includes Gordon Cormier, Kiawentiio, Ian Ousley, Dallas Liu, Paul Sun-Hyung Lee and Daniel Dae Kim.
Christine Boylan and Jabbar Raisani have taken over as executive producers for Season 2 following the departure of series developer Albert Kim in April. Kim remains an executive producer alongside Dan Lin, Lindsey Liberatore, Michael Goi, and others.
Fans eagerly anticipated the casting of Toph, who is considered one of the most beloved characters in the franchise. Netflix launched an Open Casting Call in June, encouraging blind and low vision performers to submit. The casting description highlighted Toph's sassy, confident, and unfiltered nature.
