The acclaimed filmmaker has chosen 'Jehanne d'Arc' as his next directorial project at Warner Bros., an epic tale about the life and legacy of France's national heroine.

AceShowbiz - Acclaimed filmmaker Baz Luhrmann has announced his latest project "Jehanne d'Arc" which will be released by Warner Bros. The film will tell the extraordinary story of Joan of Arc, the teenage French peasant who believed she had been chosen by God to lead her army to victory in the Hundred Years' War.

Joan of Arc rose to prominence in 1429 when she played a pivotal role in the French victory at the Battle of Orleans. However, her triumph was short-lived, as she was captured and burned at the stake in 1431. Despite her tragic end, she became a symbol of French nationalism and was canonized as a saint by the Catholic Church.

Luhrmann's "Jehanne d'Arc" will add to the filmmaker's impressive body of work, which includes "Strictly Ballroom", "Romeo + Juliet", "Moulin Rouge!", "Australia" and "The Great Gatsby". The film has been in the works since earlier this year, when Luhrmann left the adaptation of Russian novel "The Master and Margarita".

Warner Bros. has confirmed the project and has issued a casting call for the role of Joan of Arc, seeking a young female to portray "the ultimate teenage girl coming of age story." The casting process is currently underway, and further details are expected soon.

Luhrmann's last film "Elvis" was a critical and commercial success, earning eight Oscar nominations and grossing over $288 million worldwide. His "Jehanne d'Arc" project promises to be another epic undertaking, showcasing his trademark visual style and storytelling prowess.
