AceShowbiz - Foxtel's streaming platform Binge and the Western Australian screen agency Screenwest have announced the commissioning and production of season 3 of "The Twelve". Season 2 of the series was the largest production ever undertaken in Western Australia and the first to utilize the Western Australia Production Attraction Incentive (WAPAI).
Season 3 will feature actor Sam Neill reprising his role as Brett Colby SC, with the jury deliberating on a cold case murder trial. The eight one-hour episodes will be written by Sarah L. Walker, Matt Cameron, Mia Lethbridge, Adele Vuko, and Sam Meikle. Madeleine Gottlieb and Mark Joffe will co-direct.
The new season will showcase Western Australia's scenic Margaret River region, Perth, and its surroundings, including Parliament House and the ABC Studios. Producers anticipate a significant economic impact similar to Season 2, which injected A$9.6m into the state economy and created over 650 jobs.
Season 1 of "The Twelve" received widespread critical acclaim, garnering ten AACTA nominations and winning in three categories, including Best Miniseries. It also dominated the TV Week Logie Awards, winning three accolades, including Most Outstanding Drama.
The series has been commissioned by the Foxtel Group, with Lana Greenhalgh overseeing the production. Warner Bros. International Television Production Australia and Easy Tiger will produce the project, with major support from Screenwest and the WAPAI. Fifth Season will handle global rights sales.
Season 3 of "The Twelve" is expected to continue its exploration of the complexities of human nature and the challenges of navigating duty and personal struggles while acting as a jury member. The plot and additional cast details have yet to be revealed. The first two seasons are available to stream on Binge.
