Rebel Wilson celebrates the premiere of at her directorial debut of 'The Deb' with her daughter Royce and fiancee Ramona Agruma at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.

AceShowbiz - Rebel Wilson, known for her roles in comedy hits like "Pitch Perfect," has embarked on a new journey as a filmmaker. The 44-year-old actress premiered her directorial debut, "The Deb," at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). This event marks a significant milestone in Wilson's career, showcasing her versatility and commitment to storytelling.

The festival premiere was a family affair, with Wilson's daughter Royce making her red carpet debut. The actress also shared the memorable moment with her fiancée, Ramona Agruma, during the event.

Wilson has often expressed her joy and fulfillment in motherhood. In a March interview with People, she revealed how her daughter's first word was "Mama" and gushed about how "it shocks me how much she melts my heart."

However, the celebrations were somewhat overshadowed by an ongoing legal battle involving three producers of "The Deb." Earlier this year, Wilson accused Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron, and Vince Holden of trying to block the film from being shown at TIFF, alleging embezzlement and misconduct.

The producers responded with a defamation lawsuit. Despite the legal woes, Wilson remains optimistic. Speaking to PEOPLE, she emphasized the importance of focusing on the positives, stating, "At the end of the day, I'm so proud the fact that [TIFF CEO] Cameron Bailey chose this to play at the festival."

In "The Deb," Wilson not only directs but also stars as Janette, a pushy and sarcastic salon worker. The film, set in Australia, follows high school outcast Maeve as she navigates small-town life at a debutante ball.

Cast members, including newcomers Natalie Abbott, Stevie Jean, and Charlotte MacInnes, praised Wilson's directorial approach. Jean highlighted the creative freedom Wilson allowed on set, saying, "There was a lot of improv, which was great, especially for scenes with me and Rebel. It was a lot of just back and forth moments. It was just so much fun."

Despite the challenges, Wilson's enthusiasm and dedication to the project shine through. The actress has high hopes for the film, believing it will resonate with audiences. "It's so good and it's so original and so unique and it's just going to - the movie will shine," she said confidently.

As Wilson continues to navigate the complexities of filmmaking and legal disputes, she remains committed to her craft and her family. Her journey as a director has only just begun, and with "The Deb" making waves, the future looks promising for this multi-talented star.
