AceShowbiz - The iconic rock band Jane's Addiction experienced a dramatic turn of events during their Boston concert on Friday night, September 13 when lead singer Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro mid-performance. The altercation unfolded during their song "Ocean Size," causing the show to end prematurely.
Fan-captured footage shows Farrell approaching Navarro, initially shoving him with his right shoulder. The tension escalated swiftly as Farrell, visibly agitated, hurled a punch at Navarro's upper chest. Crew members immediately intervened, separating the bandmates. The concert, which typically includes three or four more songs post-"Ocean Size," concluded after just 11 songs.
Reports indicate that unrest had been brewing since the start of their reunion tour. Farrell's wife, Etty Lau Farrell, shed light on the underlying issues via Instagram, noting that her husband had been frustrated with the high stage volume, which caused his voice to be drowned out. "Perry's frustration had been mounting, night after night," she wrote. "He felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band."
The concert chaos didn't end onstage. According to Lau Farrell, bassist Eric Avery confronted Farrell backstage, putting him in a headlock and punching him in the stomach three times. Farrell's wife described the aftermath as intense, with Perry breaking down in tears.
This Boston concert marked a turbulent moment in Jane's Addiction's first tour since 2010 featuring their original lineup, comprised of Farrell, Navarro, Avery, and drummer Stephen Perkins. The tour, which began in August, is scheduled to continue despite Friday night's incident, with the next show set for Sunday in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
As the band's representatives have yet to publicly comment, fans and industry observers are left speculating about the future of the tour and the band's stability. The reunion tour has been a highly anticipated event, especially after Navarro's temporary departure due to long COVID and Avery's return in 2022. Whether the band can overcome this latest bout of internal conflict remains to be seen.
