Despite criticism, the long-running ABC dancing competition show's showrunner Conrad Green stands by the decision to cast the convicted fraudster, who is the subject of 'Inventing Anna'.

AceShowbiz - "Dancing with the Stars" showrunner Conrad Green has defended the decision to cast Anna Delvey on season 33, citing her inherent curiosity to viewers. Green believes Delvey will present well as a dancer and is confident that people are eager to see her perform. Despite her previous criminal issues, Green emphasizes that Delvey has served her time and deserves a chance to participate in the show.

Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorkin, gained notoriety for posing as a wealthy German heiress and defrauding wealthy individuals, banks, and hotels. She was convicted in 2019 on multiple charges, including grand larceny and theft of services. After serving time in prison, she was released in 2021 for good behavior.

Green acknowledged the criticism the casting decision has received, including from "The View" co-hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Alyssa Farah Griffin. However, he maintains that Delvey has paid her debt to society and is a valid and interesting cast member.

Delvey has expressed excitement about competing on "DWTS" and has received special permission from ICE to participate while living under house arrest. She has stated that she has fully repaid the victims of her fraud and is looking forward to showcasing her dancing skills.

Despite the controversy, "Dancing with the Stars" season 33 will premiere on September 17 on ABC and Disney+. Delvey's performance and the reaction from viewers are highly anticipated.
