AceShowbiz - Tyla has found herself in hot water due to her behavior at the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards. Despite making a clarification, the "Water" singer was still slammed after asking for help to hold her Moon Person.
On Wednesday, September 11, the 22-year-old singer made an appearance at the award-giving show, which took place at the UBS Arena in New York. During the ceremony, she was announced as the winner of Best Afrobeats for her song titled "Water".
After presenters Lil Nas X and Halle Bailey revealed the exciting news, it did not take long for Tyla to step on the stage in front of a star-studded audience. As Tyla got close to the microphone, the spitter handed the award to her.
Tyla took the Moon Person from Lil Nas X, without embracing him and Halle, who quickly stepped back from the center of the stage. Tyla then told the packed audience that she was "not strong enough" to hold it before asking the two presenters, "Yes, please, can you hold this for me?"
In response, Lil Nas X took the Moon Person from Tyla. In the meantime, Halle stayed still in her position while flashing her radiant big smile. Tyla said, "Yes, thank you I'm sorry," before she began her acceptance speech.
Social media users noticed Halle apparently ignoring Tyla's request to help hold the Moon Person. It did not take long for them to make fun of the interaction. One of them tweeted, "Halle said baby I am NOT the help. Hold your own award boo. Tyla tried it."
In response to the trolls, Tyla took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to clarify the matter. In a tweet, she penned, "Y'all make everything weird... I was not asking my girl Halle... We just girls, STFU I WON A VMAAAA."
Despite the clarification, other social media users slammed Tyla. One in particular criticized, "She's gorgeous.. but so odd. Her not giving them a hug or any kind of acknowledgment, then asking him to hold the award felt weird." Another argued, "She starting to 'feel herself' a little too damn much…"
A third pointed out, "SOMETHING about that woman is OFF. Her demeanor is always wierld. Halle did right. It was the 'Here take this' that aint aint ait right. You only been famous for 15 months she been in the business for years humble yourself." A fourth added, "Some one tell Tyla, Not too much. You just came on the scene...Not too much. Stay humble."
