AceShowbiz - George R.R. Martin, the creator of "Game of Thrones", has expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming spin-off series, "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms". In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin praised the show's cast, tone, and showrunner Ira Parker.
"I visited the set in Northern Ireland in July and loved what I saw," Martin said. "Great cast. Dunk and Egg look as if they walked out of the pages of my book. My readers are going to love them. I certainly do. [Showrunner Ira Parker] is doing a great job."
Martin's positive remarks come in contrast to his previous criticism of "House of the Dragon" season 2. In September 2024, he wrote a now-deleted blog post expressing concerns about the show's handling of the "Blood & Cheese" sequence. HBO responded to these criticisms, acknowledging the challenges of adapting the source material.
Despite his concerns about House of the Dragon, Martin remains enthusiastic about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. He has previously praised the series' tone and director, Owen Harris, who helmed the critically acclaimed episode "San Junipero" on "Black Mirror".
"A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms" is expected to premiere on HBO in 2025. Set a century before "Game of Thrones", it follows the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire, Egg. The series stars Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol Ansell, Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel and others.
