AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie has hinted at the profound impact her divorce from Brad Pitt has had on her, describing it as a journey filled with "despair" and "pain." The 49-year-old actress separated from Pitt after an alleged incident on a plane in 2016, during which she claimed he assaulted her and their children.
At the Venice International Film Festival to promote her new movie "Maria", Jolie shared that she has found solace in classical music and opera, especially since experiencing such intense emotions. She explained, "There are only certain sounds that can match that feeling, and to me, the immensity of the feeling encapsulated in the sounds of opera - there is nothing like it."
Jolie's emotional connection to opera is further explored in her role as Maria Callas in the upcoming film. She spent seven months training to sing, expressing her nervousness but acknowledging the support of her sons who helped her overcome her fears.
Director Pablo Larrain described the film as a celebration of Callas' life while Jolie expressed hope that the singer had known how loved she was at the end of her life.
Jolie also related strongly to Callas' vulnerability, saying, "I think the way I related to her was probably the part of her that is extremely soft and doesn't have room in the world to be as soft as she was, as emotionally open as she truly was... I share her vulnerability more than anything."
In addition to her newfound love for opera, Jolie has found therapy in the process of learning to sing. She stated, "I had no idea how much I was holding in and not letting out... You have to give every single part of yourself."
