AceShowbiz - Mariah Carey's legal battle with Alison Carey reportedly had yet to be dismissed prior to the latter's death. It has been revealed that their legal problem remained unresolved before the singer's sister passed away.

On Monday, August 26, InTouch claimed that "the case brought by Alison in 2021 never went anywhere after her initial filing," per court records obtained by the media outlet. In the lawsuit, Alison accused Mariah of "intentional infliction of emotional distress over statements" made in the 55-year-old Grammy-winning singer's 2020 memoir titled "The Meaning of Mariah Carey".

Alison insisted that some of Mariah's statements were false. Alison alleged that the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" songstress "callously dismisses [her] as an 'ex' sister." She also claimed, "But instead of saying no more about her, [Mariah] used her book to humiliate and embarrass [her] as stories about the memoir appeared in newspapers around the world, on TV and across the internet."

According to the outlet, Alison "accused her wealthy and famous sister of attacking her who was 'penniless' in an effort to sell books. Alison said she was devastated by the 'cruel and outrageous allegations.' " Furthermore, Alison "demanded $1.25 million in damages for Mariah's 'heartless, vicious, vindictive despicable and totally unnecessary public humiliation.' "

Weeks after the legal papers were filed, Mariah asked Alison to "file an actual complaint that [the latter] could respond to." However, it has been said that "the court docket shows there was no movement in the case since Mariah's request."

The revelation came after Mariah confirmed that her 63-year-old sister Alison and their 87-year-old mother Patricia passed away on the same day. In a statement to PEOPLE, she announced, "My heart is broken that I've lost my mother this past weekend. Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister lost her life on the same day." No details have been released regarding the causes of death.
