The retired professional soccer player reflects on the transformative experience of filming his Netflix docuseries, revealing how it helped him process mental health struggles.

AceShowbiz - Last year, David Beckham captured the attention of Netflix viewers with his self-titled docuseries. Reflecting back, the soccer legend credits the experience with being "therapeutic."

In a guest column for The Hollywood Reporter, Beckham explained that filming "Beckham" allowed him to confront mental health challenges he had long concealed. The public scrutiny he and his wife, Victoria Adams, faced amplified the importance of addressing mental well-being.

"One of the biggest lessons I've learned is just how important it is that we take care of our mental health," Beckham wrote. "I hope anyone struggling today knows that they don't have to carry the pressure alone."

Beckham admitted that the filming process was emotionally draining, but it also provided closure. "I wouldn't say that making this documentary gave me closure because I still feel pain from those moments," he said. "But it did allow me to forgive myself and let go of some of that guilt."

However, Beckham's journey of self-discovery began with a reluctance to revisit his past. It was the 10-year anniversary of his retirement that prompted him to embark on the project, driven by a desire to create a legacy for his family.

"I knew that embracing this discomfort was a necessary part of the process," Beckham said of the raw and honest approach taken by director Fisher Stevens. "I told him that I only wanted to do this once, and I wanted to do it properly."

The result is a docuseries that delves beyond the headlines and football, exploring Beckham's human experiences and the profound impact they have had on his life and career.
