However, in the wake of his tragic demise, it has emerged that he was being subjected to a cycle of ketamine abuse fueled by a group of individuals who preyed on his addiction.
On the day of Perry's death, his personal assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, discovered him face down in a hot tub. Iwamasa administered three ketamine shots to Perry that morning, with Perry told his assistant to "Shoot me up with a big one" before the final injection.
Court documents reveal that Perry received at least 27 ketamine shots in the five days leading up to his death, administered by Iwamasa without medical training. The documents also implicate two physicians, Salvador Plascencia and Mark Chavez, who allegedly supplied Perry with ketamine through a fraudulent prescription.
Plascencia, known as "Dr. P," mocked Perry in text messages and provided Iwamasa with instructions on how to inject ketamine into Perry's body. Iwamasa also purchased vials of ketamine from Plascencia and later sourced more from Jasveen Sangha, known as the "Ketamine Queen."
An investigation revealed that Iwamasa injected Perry six to eight times per day, enriching himself by exploiting Perry's addiction. Prosecutors allege that Plascencia and Chavez supplied Perry with 22 vials of ketamine and ketamine lozenges while Sangha is accused of being a dealer. Erik Fleming, an acquaintance of Perry, acted as a middleman.
The Department of Justice has charged all five individuals with various crimes, including conspiracy to distribute and administer controlled substances. Authorities have uncovered a "broad underground criminal network" that contributed to Perry's tragic death.
