AceShowbiz - In a recent interview on Maverick Carter's "Mavericks" show, Tyler, the Creator reflected on his past criticism of Eminem's album "Recovery" with a sense of regret. Known for his outspoken nature, Tyler admitted that his harsh words stemmed from a limited perspective. At the time, he had publicly stated he "f**king hated" the album.
However, after watching the Netflix miniseries "Painkillers", which highlights the opioid crisis and its impact on millions, including Eminem, Tyler gained a new understanding.
"After watching [Painkillers], I felt so bad about those tweets," he said. "Thinking from [Eminem's] perspective, getting off drugs and being clean... and me implying this s**t is [bad], he probably felt like I was attacking him."
Tyler realized his younger self was too focused on wanting to hear the type of music that had initially captivated him with Eminem's earlier work. "I felt terrible. If I ever see him, I want to tell him that in-person," he said.
Tyler expressed how much Eminem had influenced him as a rapper. "That dude taught me how to rap," he said. "I learned how to put words together in rhythm because of some of the Eminem stuff I was hearing."
"Recovery" was not only a personal triumph for Eminem but also a commercial success, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and selling over 741,000 copies in its first week. It won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2011, and its hit singles became anthems.
