AceShowbiz - Sam Asghari, the ex-husband of pop icon Britney Spears, recently shared his thoughts on the upcoming biopic about Spears' life. Speaking on the red carpet for his new Prime Video film, "Jackpot", Asghari underscored the importance of the film honoring Spears' legacy, which he called "a really strong one."
During an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Asghari, 30, expressed his hope that the film has Spears' approval and that it does justice to her story. He stated, "I just hope that they have her approval and everything, and they do justice by her legacy, because it's a really strong one." Asghari and Spears began dating in 2017 and were married in 2022 before their separation in August 2023.
Universal Pictures acquired the rights to Spears' bestselling 2023 memoir, "The Woman in Me", after a highly competitive auction. The upcoming biopic, which has not yet announced its cast, will be directed by Jon M. Chu of "Wicked" fame with production led by Marc Platt. Spears herself teased a "secret project" with Platt on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, "Excited to share with my fans that I've been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He's always made my favorite movies ... stay tuned."
The memoir chronicled Spears' meteoric rise to fame, her relationship with fellow child star Justin Timberlake, which included her getting pregnant and having an abortion, and details regarding her grueling 13-year conservatorship. As fans eagerly await further news on the biopic, Asghari made it clear he had no role in its casting decisions.
When asked if he had an actor in mind to portray him in the film, Asghari simply replied, "I'm really just focusing on my craft." Despite their split, Asghari has consistently spoken highly of his relationship with Spears, highlighting the positive experiences and memories they shared. "It was a blessing to be able to share life with someone for a long time. And people grow apart and people move on," he told PEOPLE earlier this year.
Asghari emphasized the importance of maintaining respect post-separation, saying, "I've always hated people leaving a certain relationship - and at some point they told each other they love each other and they sat at the same table and ate food [together] - so I never understood when people part ways [and] they talk badly about each other... That's something I'm never going to do because I had nothing but an amazing experience and a great life, and that's always going to be part of my life, a chapter of my life."
