As streaming services and online platforms dominate the entertainment landscape, Jimmy Kimmel predicts a bleak outlook for traditional late-night television shows. Will 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' and its counterparts still be here in a decade?

AceShowbiz - Jimmy Kimmel, the long-time host of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," recently shared his doubts about the future of late-night television. During an appearance on the "Politickin'" podcast, Kimmel expressed his concerns, stating, "I don't know if there will be any late-night television shows on network TV in 10 years."

Kimmel elaborated that while there might still be one or two shows, the era of numerous late-night talk shows could be coming to an end. He attributes this potential decline to the rise of streaming services and the sheer volume of content available to viewers.

"There's a lot to watch and now people can watch anything at anytime, they've got all these streaming services," he noted. The days when Johnny Carson was the only option at 11:30 P.M. are long gone, and with multiple alternatives, the audience's attention is increasingly fragmented.

Another significant factor, according to Kimmel, is the availability of online clips. He pointed out, "Maybe more significantly, the fact that people are easily able to watch your monologue online the next day, it really cancels out the need to watch it when it's on the air. Once people stop watching it when it's on the air, networks are going to stop paying for it to be made."

This shift in viewing habits has diminished the urgency for audiences to tune in live, impacting traditional ratings and the network's willingness to invest in these shows.

Despite these challenges, Kimmel continues to host his show although he acknowledges a looming sense of uncertainty about the future. "I will have a hard time when it's over. It worries me," he admitted. "That's part of the reason I keep going. Each time, I think this is going to be my last contract and then I wind up signing another contract."

He fears the day when he will have to figure out his next move in a limited landscape for late-night hosts.

Kimmel has taken some time off this summer, with "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" featuring celebrity guest hosts like Kathryn Hahn and Kumail Nanjiani. He is expected to return to the show this fall, but the question remains: how much longer will such late-night staples be a fixture on network television?

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, the fate of traditional late-night talk shows like "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" hangs in the balance. With the growing dominance of streaming platforms, it's uncertain whether these iconic programs will survive the next decade.
