AceShowbiz - Actress Chandra Wilson, known for her iconic role as Dr. Miranda Bailey on "Grey's Anatomy", recently shared anecdotes from her final audition day for the show. During a panel at the D23 Disney fan event, Wilson revealed that she took a break and enjoyed rides at Universal Studios during a five-hour gap between auditions.
Despite the unconventional audition break, Wilson's performance impressed the production studio and network enough to land her the coveted role. Interestingly, the character of Dr. Bailey was initially described as a "short, white blonde female," but Wilson broke the mold and has played the surgeon consistently since the show's pilot episode in 2005.
Wilson attributes her audition success to her mother's influence as a teacher and to taking command of the room. She also recalled how her agent advised her to maintain a job outside of acting until the show's second season, which she did at Banker's Trust as a document processor.
The upcoming season of "Grey's Anatomy" promises to deliver more of the show's signature "shocking moments," according to showrunner Meg Marinis. Cast members teased new relationships and hinted at a potential storyline where the doctors must navigate job uncertainties.
Wilson and James Pickens Jr., who plays Dr. Richard Webber, also reflected on their early experiences with the show. Wilson shared her amazement at witnessing a delicate heart surgery on a five-month-old baby during her research for the role, while Pickens Jr. recalled meeting creator Shonda Rhimes and being informed that the show would have an unprecedented impact on the television landscape.
The panel concluded with the cast celebrating Kevin McKidd's 51st birthday with a rendition of "Happy Birthday". "Grey's Anatomy", which focuses on the lives of surgical interns at Seattle's Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, continues to captivate audiences with its emotional storylines, compelling characters, and unforgettable moments.
