In an interview, the President reflects on the emotional moments he shared with his family and the significance of his commitment to preserving American democracy.

AceShowbiz - In a new interview with "CBS News Sunday Morning", President Joe Biden revealed how his loved ones reacted to his decision to exit the 2024 presidential race. He announced his decision on July 21 and expounded upon it in an Oval Office address three days later.

Biden said his family, including his grandchildren who call him "Pop" and his children who call him "Dad," expressed their pride in his decision. "It mattered to me a lot," he said.

Reflecting on his late son, Beau Biden, who died of brain cancer in 2015, Biden said he often thinks of his son's advice in making tough decisions. "He was really a fine man," Biden said.

Biden also recalled a promise he made to Beau before his passing. "He said, 'Dad, I know, we know what's gonna happen. But Dad, you gotta make me a promise.' I said, 'What's that, Beau?' He said, 'I know when it happens, you're gonna want to quit. Look at me. Look at me, Dad. Give me your word as a Biden. When I go, you'll stay engaged. Give me your word.' "

Biden said that's why he ran for president in 2017, following the Charlottesville tragedy, and that he remains committed to preserving democracy. "I thought it was important. Because, although it's a great honor being president, I think I have an obligation to the country to do what [is] the most important thing you can do, and that is, we must, we must, we must defeat Donald Trump."
