AceShowbiz - The realm of TV medieval fantasy is about to be shaken up by the creative prowess of Michael Bay, revealing his first foray into television with the highly-anticipated series, "Barbaric", for Netflix. Known for his big-screen spectacles, Bay is set to direct this adaptation of the best-selling Vault comic, in collaboration with A+E Studios.
"Barbaric" will star Sam Claflin as Owen the Barbarian, a warrior cursed to perform good deeds against his will, wielding a comically bloodthirsty, moral compass of a weapon, voiced by the legendary Patrick Stewart. Stewart's demonic axe adds a layer of dark humor to the otherwise brutal narrative.
Claflin, recognized for his roles in "Daisy Jones & the Six" and "Peaky Blinders", will also serve as an executive producer through his production company, Cusp Films. Patrick Stewart, fresh from his reprisal of his iconic role in "Star Trek: Picard", joins Claflin, promising a noteworthy powerhouse performance duet.
The "Barbaric" series, co-created by Michael Moreci and artist Nathan Gooden, has enjoyed substantial acclaim since its 2021 release. Described as "Deadpool meets Game of Thrones" by sources, the comic is filled with gonzo violence and humor, presenting a unique blend that appeals to fans of both genres.
Sheldon Turner, known for Up in the "Air" and "X-Men: First Class", is penning the series and stepping in as an executive producer alongside his partner, Jennifer Klein, from 100% Productions. Additional executive producers include F.J. DeSanto and Damian Wassel from Vault Comics, as well as Barry Jossen and Tana Jamieson from A+E Studios.
Bay's involvement in Barbaric marks a significant milestone as he ventures into television territory, aiming to translate his signature explosive action style to a serialized format. In addition to Netflix's "Barbaric", Bay is also working on an untitled action drama series for Amazon Prime Video, further expanding his influence in the world of streaming content.
As excitement builds around this ambitious project, viewers eagerly await the dynamic interplay of Claflin's heroics and Stewart's charismatic vocal performance, set against the vivid and chaotic backdrop of Bay's direction. Barbaric is on its way to becoming a must-watch TV event, merging high-stakes adventure with a moral undertone, driven by unforgettable characters.
