AceShowbiz - The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has determined that Sam Rubin died on May 10, 2024, from "ischemic heart disease due to atherosclerotic coronary artery disease." This condition occurs when the arteries supplying blood to the heart become narrowed or blocked, leading to inadequate blood flow and oxygen to the heart muscle.
Earlier that morning, Rubin experienced stomach pain and called 911 on the advice of his doctor. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead in the emergency room at 11:03 A.M.
The medical examiner's office ruled Rubin's death as natural. Atherosclerotic coronary artery disease is a common cause of death worldwide, particularly among men.
Rubin, a founding member of the Broadcast Film Critics' Association, joined KTLA in 1991 and served as the outlet's weekday entertainment anchor for over three decades. He was known for his warm personality, infectious laugh, and dedication to his craft.
Over the course of his career, Rubin received numerous accolades, including the National Hispanic Media Coalition's Impact Award and the Southern California Broadcasters Association's Lifetime Achievement Award. He also authored two biographies, one on former First Lady Jackie Onassis and the other on actress and activist Mia Farrow.
Rubin's final televised appearance was on May 9, the day before his death, where he interviewed actress Jane Seymour. On May 10, he did not appear for his scheduled broadcast and showed no signs of illness, according to KTLA colleagues.
Rubin is survived by his wife, Leslie, and their four children. His family and colleagues are mourning his loss, remembering his kind and compassionate spirit and his significant contributions to the entertainment industry.
