AceShowbiz - The football community is in mourning following the tragic death of Minnesota Vikings rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson. Jackson, just 24 years old, was involved in a fatal car accident early Saturday morning, July 6 in his hometown of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

The devastating incident also claimed the lives of two of Jackson's former high school teammates, Isaiah Hazel and Anthony Lytton Jr.

According to Maryland State Police, the crash occurred at 3:14 AM ET and involved three vehicles. Hazel, who was driving, and Jackson were pronounced dead at the scene while Lytton succumbed to his injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital.

Police have indicated that alcohol may have played a role in the crash, caused when a speeding Infiniti Q50 attempted to change lanes and struck the Dodge Charger driven by Hazel. The Charger subsequently veered off the road and hit multiple tree stumps.

Jackson was the 108th overall pick in the fourth round of this year's NFL Draft. His professional journey was marked by a stint with the University of Alabama before transferring to the University of Oregon, where he earned an All-Pac-12 first-team selection in 2023.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell expressed his profound grief, stating, "In our short time together, it was evident Khyree was going to develop into a tremendous professional football player, but what was more impressive was his desire to become the best person he could be for his family and those around him."

The Minnesota Vikings released a statement expressing their heartbreak over the loss: "We are devastated by the news of Khyree Jackson's death following an overnight car accident. Our thoughts are with Khyree's family, friends, teammates and coaches, as well as all the victims of this tragic accident."

The statement also mentioned that the team is offering counseling and emotional support to its members affected by the tragedy.
