AceShowbiz - Legendary rock singer Ann Wilson, 74, recently announced a pause in her dynamic career to focus on her health after undergoing surgery for cancer. On Tuesday, July 2, Wilson shared the news on Instagram, revealing that she had an operation to remove a cancerous growth and would be undergoing preventative chemotherapy.
"Dear friends, I recently underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous," Wilson wrote on Instagram. "The operation was successful & I'm feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy & I've decided to do it."
Due to her treatment plan, Wilson's doctors have advised her to take the rest of the year off from performing. Consequently, Heart's Royal Flush Tour, initially scheduled to kick off in Cleveland on July 30 and continue through to December, has been canceled.
"To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025," she assured her fans. "My team is getting those details sorted & we'll let you know the plan as soon as we can."
She extended gratitude towards her fans for their unwavering support, promising a return to the stage in the near future. "This is merely a pause. I've much more to sing," she wrote. "Love, Ann Wilson. Respectfully, this is the last public statement I'd like to make on the matter."
In a statement shared on Heart's official Instagram page, the band mentioned that additional information will be announced in the forthcoming weeks. This health update follows the recent cancellation of a series of concerts in Europe for June and July, during which Wilson underwent a "time-sensitive but routine medical procedure" requiring an extensive recovery period.
"I'm okay! Please don't worry," she wrote on Instagram at the time. "I do apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. It's certainly an inconvenience for me. Love & respect always, Ann."
Heart last performed in North America during a series of concerts in April and late May. The band, which gained entry into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013, reunited in 2019 after a three-year hiatus and marked 50 years of musical history in 2023.
Reflecting on her career's longevity, Wilson told PEOPLE in 2022, "Back when I started, I didn't even believe I'd live to be 30. In your early 20s, you just go, 'I'll never get old.' I never dreamed it would go on 50 years. For me, it's the bomb. When it's all going right, there's nothing like it."
As fans eagerly await Ann Wilson's recovery and return, they can find solace in knowing that this is just a brief intermission in her storied career.
