AceShowbiz - Taylor Swift has treated her fans, famously known as Swifties, to new versions of her latest album. Less than two months after launching "The Tortured Poets Department", the "All Too Well" hitmaker unleashed two new editions of the record.
One new version of the album featured all the tracks from the 34-year-old singer/songwriter's standart set and an acoustic version of "Fortnight", her collaborative song with Post Malone. Meanwhile, the other one included the tracks and an acoustic version of "Fresh Out the Slammer".
After dropping the new editions, Taylor received mixed responses from her listeners. On Monday, June 10, she became a hot topic on various social media platforms and Reddit as many voiced their thoughts on the matter.
One in particular wrote, "Swifties put down the credit card challenge. We as a society need to collectively stop buying s**t like this. Taylor and Republic will keep selling these because fans continue to buy, especially in her imperial phase. Don't spend money solely to help a celebrity chart or break a record."
"Taylor does so many great things and creates amazing experiences for fans but she also treats them like piggy banks," the user continued. "Nobody is going to look back at TTPD's stretch at #1 in 2024 and think 'wow what an influential album.' And I'm saying this as someone who likes the album."
Another replied, "She's not treating fans as piggy banks, she's treating them as chart bank. She didn't even release these overseas she only wants the billboard 200 I really can't stand her."
A third penned, "I totally get wanting to collect some of the versions, like the bonus songs with all of the collectible goodies. But the album with a bonus acoustic song (that isn't even re-recorded acoustically, just edited production) is just crazy to me to purchase."
Following the criticisms, a number of Swifties quickly came to Taylor's defense. One of them stated, "She can release as many versions as she wants. I'm here for it & here to listen to all of em. Haters can stay mad."
It is known that Taylor has many editions of "The Tortured Poets Department". Among four of the variations are called "The Manuscript", "The Bolter", "The Albatross" and "The Black Dog", all of which she unleashed simultaneously on April 19.
