AceShowbiz - Bravo star Scheana Shay has taken issue with Kristen Doute's merchandise promotion on Instagram. Doute, 41, posted a video of herself and Zack Wickham wearing "Petty with a Purpose" T-shirts with a caption that read, "Our mind is telling us no, but our petty is telling us yes... ."
Shay commented on the post, "Not the R. Kelly reference…. ." Doute responded with a puzzled "huh?", suggesting she was unaware of the connection. Wickham later clarified that the caption was taken from an e-card, saying, "We had no idea it was a lyric from him."
The controversy stems from the opening lyrics of R. Kelly's 1993 song "Bump n' Grind", which are, "My mind's tellin' me no, but my body, my body's tellin' me yes." Kelly was convicted of eight counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering in New York in 2022, receiving a 30-year sentence. Months later, he was found guilty of child sex abuse in a Chicago trial and sentenced to 20 years in prison. He is currently serving 31 years in prison.
Despite Shay's criticism, there seems to be no animosity between her and Doute. Shay previously defended Doute on "The Valley" when Jax Taylor questioned her readiness to become a mother. Shay is married to Brock Davies and has a daughter named Summer.
