When opening up about her health issues, the former 'Dance Moms' star reveals in an interview that she was diagnosed with stage 1 breas cancer just eight months after receiving a clean mammogram.

AceShowbiz - Kelly Hyland revealed that she was diagnosed with breast cancer eight months after receiving a clean mammogram. The "Dance Moms" alum got candid about her health issues in an exclusive interview with E! News.

"The first red flag was my significant weight loss," the 53-year-old told the outlet of the symptom. "I lost enough that others noticed and would ask for my dieting hacks, but there was nothing I had changed in my day-to-day to cause the loss."

Kelly then recalled scheduling another mammogram after noticing a lump in her breast in late March. "I booked myself a mammogram," she said. "I had just had one done eight months prior and the results came back clean. However, this new mammogram and sonogram did not, it came back showing a mass."

A biopsy confirmed that Kelly had breast cancer: a stage 1 grade 3 invasive carcinoma, indicating that the cancer is fast-growing but has not spread much, according to the American Cancer Society. "I went from clean results to a malignant mass in eight months," she shared. "I was shocked that it had grown that quickly and scared of the battle I knew I was about to face."

Kelly shared the news with her kids, fellow "Dance Moms" alums Brooke Hyland, 26, and Paige Hyland, 23, as well as Josh Hyland. Despite receiving support from her children, the mom of three still felt uncomfortable relying on others through the challenges of cancer treatment.

"The toughest part for me has been accepting help from the people around me," she said. "I am a very independent person and, as a mom, I'm used to being the one taking care of people, not the one being taken care of."

However, Kelly was quick to learn that she's "on a very long and tough road." She continued, "I am going to need to learn to accept people's help because I am very lucky to have people that want to take care of me during this time."
