AceShowbiz - Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton are celebrating their son Prince Louis' 6th birthday. On Tuesday, April 24, the Prince and Princess of Wales made use of their social media accounts to share a new portrait of the birthday boy.

In the new photo, Louis could be seen flashing a huge smile while lying down on the grass. The young boy sported a checkered shirt and navy pants with a pink picnic mat beneath him.

According to a representative for Kensington Palace, the snap was taken by Kate in Windsor in the last few days. "Happy 6th Birthday, Prince Louis! Thank you for all the kind wishes today," the proud parents wrote in the caption.

Fans quickly gushed over the little prince in the comments section. "OMG Happy Birthday to Prince Louis. Thank you so much for this beautiful photo," one Instagram user wrote. "Louis looks so handsome and he looks so much like George here. I hope he's having an amazing day."

Another commented, "Aw what a beautiful picture!! His big smile for his beloved mother. Thank you to our Prince and Princess of Wales for this wonderful surprise!! PEOPLE claimed that the new photo has not been edited. Previously, Kate was caught in controversy after being caught editing the snap taken by Prince William to mark Mother's Day in the U.K. In addition to Louis, Kate and William share Prince George, 10, and Princess Charlotte, 8.

The birthday tribute came amid Kate's cancer battle. The Duchess of Cambridge opened up last month that she was undergoing cancer treatment. Kate admitted in her emotional video message that it had been a shock to both process the news and "manage this privately for the sake of our young family."

She added, "Most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be okay."
