Since the 20-year-old 'Dance Moms' alum unleashed 'Karma' and its visuals on April 5, Brit's version of the song became viral on TikTok, which is reportedly from 2012 but was never officially released.

AceShowbiz - JoJo Siwa remained defiant despite backlash over her latest single, "Karma". The former "Dance Moms" star has been accused of stealing the song from singer/songwriter Brit Smith, but she denied the allegation.

The 20-year-old addressed the controversy when speaking to TMZ outside Studio Siwa in Burbank. "What happens is, people write songs and then they just don't do anything with them. And then, a few years later, it makes more sense for another artist," she explained.

"I did not steal anything. There's no such thing as stealing," she stressed, claiming that she doesn't know who Brit is. The YouTube sensation went on to note, "I got a really good team of lawyers and I got a really good label. I ain't doing nothing illegal."

JoJo admitted that "Karma" "was a special song," adding, "I knew that it fit. I knew that it was exactly the vision that I wanted to create for the world." She further elaborated, " 'Karma' makes you listen, 'Karma' makes you ask, 'Karma' makes you confused. So, whether people like it or not, marketing plan worked."

Since JoJo dropped "Karma" and its visuals on April 5, Brit's version of the song became viral on TikTok. Brit's take on "Karma" is reportedly from 2012, but was never officially released, and there were even rumors suggesting that Miley Cyrus recorded a demo for it too.

In an interview with Page Six, Brit confirmed that the song was "supposed to be" her first single when she worked with producing team Rock Mafia. However, "things just changed" and Brit went with "Provocative" instead after "label things got in the way."

"I kind of was led in that direction and we went with "Provocative", " she went on elaborating, "and then I left the industry after that."
