AceShowbiz - "Euphoria" is not canceled. After a report suggested that the show's third season has been scrapped entirely, HBO and the series' creator vowed that they will make the long-awaited season "exceptional."
"HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season," an HBO spokesperson said in a statement. "In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities."
It was previously announced during the special presentation of the HBO and Max 2024 content slate last year that season 3 of the coming-of-age drama will not arrive until 2025. HBO revealed during the presentation that the Hollywood strikes affected the production of the Zendaya Coleman-starring drama. It was also said that the filming for the third season will only start this year.
The sophomore season of "Euphoria" ended in a cliffhanger. The finale saw the devastating death of Ashtray's (Javon Walton), Fezco's (Angus Cloud) little brother. Meanwhile, it remains unknown how the show will handle Angus' character following the actor's passing earlier this year.
Set in the fictional town of East Highland, California, "Euphoria" follows teens who are trying to deal with love, loss and addiction. Alongside Zendaya, the series stars Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie, Barbie Ferreira and Dominic Fike.
Dominic, however, hinted at his exit back in January. The 28-year-old singer and actor starred as Elliot, a drug user who becomes romantically involved with Rue (Zendaya Coleman), in the second series of the show and Dominic revealed that show creator, Sam, tried to keep him sober in real life but it didn't work.
"[The sober coach was] a random lady that I'd never relate to. We had nothing in common. We didn't come from the same places or the same problems. It was hard to take advice from someone like that...," he said to Variety at the Sundance Film Festival. He also admitted it is unlikely he will return for season three, saying it "would be dope" but "I don't really talk to them anymore."
