The 'Boom Clap' hitmaker teases that she's working on a new project, which will serve as a follow-up to her fifth studio album 'Crash', but she has yet to disclose when she will release it.

AceShowbiz - Charlie XCX had bittersweet news for fans. The "Boom Clap" hitmaker announced on social media that she's been working on new music, but she had put too much effort that she fell sick several times during the process.

Making use of Instagram, the 31-year-old unleashed some selfies from her bed. She followed them up with a photo dump that included a picture from a night out with her friends. The singer captioned the post, "i've been so working so hard i've been sick 3 times in the past 6 weeks but i guess that's what happens when you're making THE album."

Charli has yet to disclose when she will drop the new project. The upcoming record, however, will serve as a follow-up to her fifth studio album "Crash" which arrived back in 2022.

Charli once opened up about how 80's music had influenced the album. "At the moment I'm very inspired by a lot of '80s music. My current record Crash was really heavily inspired by that, both sonically and visually," she told PEOPLE in May of that year.

"I feel like with this album, I did something that my fans didn't really expect of me. I had spent the pandemic creating an almost rave-inspired album in some ways," she added. "Then to really come back with something that's so much more classically pop was a little bit unexpected. But I think that's a good thing. It's a good thing to not do what people predict of you."

Meanwhile, Charli's new announcement came one month after she and Sam Smith unleashed their joint single, "In the City". Prior to the song's release, the English songstress addressed the backlash she has faced for teaming up with the "Unholy" hitmaker.

"I'm about to release a song with Sam Smith, and the experience so far has been really interesting, because never in my life, have I seen somebody receive so many hateful comments online," she said in a TikTok video at the time. "It's honestly been really disheartening, but at the same time, I'm so proud of Sam's ability to withstand that, because I know that I certainly couldn't withstand it. So I just want to say, Sam, I love you and I love our song together, and I am in awe of your strength."
