The Golden Globes find a new home at the Eye after NBC aired the show since 1996, but refused to pick it up for the 81st edition that will take place in January.

AceShowbiz - The Golden Globe Awards have found a new home for 2024. The awards show has landed on CBS for its 81st edition that will be held on January 7, 2024. It will air live from 8 to 11 P.M. PT / 5 to 8 P.M. PT.

The three-hour show will air on the broadcast network immediately after an NFL on CBS doubleheader. The show will also stream on Paramount+ and be available on the CBS app as part of a new deal between CBS and the Golden Globes. Stations in the Pacific Time zone that air the event live will also rebroadcast the entire telecast in primetime immediately following the live presentation.

The deal brings back the Golden Globes to CBS after more than four decades. The Eye last aired the show in 1982, when it dropped the telecast due to the Pia Zadora scandal.

"We're so proud to bring the Golden Globes to CBS to celebrate 81 years of awards show history," said Jay Penske, CEO, chairman and founder of Penske Media and owner of Dick Clark Productions. "CBS has demonstrated an impressive 30-year commitment to the Grammys and been instrumental to their long-term success. In CBS, we found an ideal partner who understands the value of live entertainment programming and whose multiplatform distribution model is reflective of how global audiences choose to consume content today."

George Cheeks, president and CEO of CBS, added, "Live entertainment and sports have been, and will always be, a hallmark of CBS, and the Globes adds an exciting new dimension to our first quarter schedule this year. The January timing also provides the added benefit of yet another signature platform to promote the return of CBS' new primetime schedule in February."

In recent years, the Golden Globes faced backlash over the lack of black representation among its members, leading to the cancellation of the 2022 ceremony. NBC agreed to return as a broadcast partner in 2023 for a telecast, which also streamed on Peacock. It was a one-year agreement and the network decided not to renew its contract as it already had an NFL Sunday Night Football game on January 7, the night that the Globes had confirmed for the 2024 ceremony.

The deal with CBS comes after multi-month search which started after the Golden Globes' assets, rights and properties were acquired by Dick Clark Productions and Eldridge from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in June, dissolving the HFPA. The awards show has now turned into a commercial enterprise.
