AceShowbiz - "Game of Thrones" prequel "A Knight the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" will start production soon. The series, based on George R.R. Martin's "Dunk and Egg" books, is set to begin filming in spring 2024 after the SAG-AFTRA strike ends.
HBO network chief Casey Bloys made the revelations during a Q&A at a HBO and Max content slate event on Thursday, November 2. No additional information, including cast, was given. Martin, meanwhile, is set to write and executive produce the show alongside Ira Parker, Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis.
"A Knight the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight" will follow Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg, the latter of which would become King Aegon V Targaryen. The logline for "The Hedge Knight" reads, "A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naive but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."
At the press event, Bloys additionally shared that HBO will continue to explore stories from Martin's best-selling books. "We always have 'Game of Thrones' scripts in development," he said when asked about additional spin-offs. "I wouldn't say there's anything else in that world that is close to greenlit or anything but we're always working on different scripts and different ideas."
He also gave an update on "Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon". The sophomore season of the show, which follows House Targaryen 200 years before the events of "Game of Thrones", is scheduled to premiere on HBO sometime in 2024.
