AceShowbiz - Shannon Beador has avoided jail time following her DUI and hit-and-run arrest. After being sentenced to three years of probation in the case, "The Real Housewives of Orange County" star expressed her gratitude in a statement shared with TMZ.
"I am grateful that no one else was injured besides me in this incident," the 59-year-old told the outlet. "I have learned so much from my terrible mistake that night and realize that driving any distance while impaired is too far."
On Thursday, November 2, Shannon's attorney pleaded no contest to one of the charges on her behalf. While Orange County D.A. Todd Spitzer was pushing for a harsher punishment for the reality star, including 30 days in prison, the judge ruled differently.
Aside from three years of probation, Shannon has been required to do 40 hours of community service and a 9-month alcohol program. She also needs to pay restitution for the house damage from the accident, which she has already done.
Shannon smashed her car into a property in Newport Beach on September 16. At the time, she was driving under the influence of alcohol and had her dog Archie in the vehicle. In CCTV footage obtained by TMZ, she was documented driving at a high speed before the crash and later driving away from the damaged building.
According to police sources, Shannon attempted to get away from the mess by pretending that she was walking Archie after she parked her car in the middle of the street. A few hours later, she was arrested for DUI alcohol as well as hit-and-run before she was "cited and released without bond." It was later unveiled that her blood alcohol content was "three times the legal limit" and said that she "blew a .24" percent after her crash.
