'American Idol' Finalist Defends Katy Perry Amid Bullying Claims

In an Instagram post, Oliver Steele jumps to the judge's defense as the 'Dark Horse' singer faces backlash over her controversial comments she made on season 21 contestants.

AceShowbiz - "American Idol" finalist Oliver Steele is weighing in on claims that judge Katy Perry is a bully on the show. In an Instagram post, Oliver jumped to Katy's defense as she faced backlash over her controversial comments she made on season 21 contestants.

"Katy is not a bully, nor does she shame people," Oliver wrote on his page on Saturday, May 27 alongside two pictures of himself with the "Fireworks" singer. "I remember being nervous at my audition, nervous during Hollywood week, hell even nervous throughout various points in the competition."

The 25-year-old singer went on to say, "Katy has an incredible ability to not just tell what emotional state you're in, but to be able to tell what's holding you back." He also noted that while he loves "all the judges," Katy was "able to look into my soul and tell exactly what was troubling me" or what he was struggling with.

Oliver continued, "It's one thing to teach someone to believe in their ability, which the judges are fabulous at. Katy reminded me to believe in who I am as an artist. She challenged me to push myself, to take on challenges that made me uncomfortable. I'm a better musician and artist after Katy Perry pushed me to believe in my potential, and to exceed my limitations."

In his post, Oliver also addressed rumors that the "Roar" hitmaker was planning to quit the long-running singing competition series due to the criticism. He said that he doesn't "necessarily know what's true and what's not," but he hopes she will stay on the hit ABC competition series. "You're a guiding light, an incredible teacher. And you made me believe that I am my own hero. Thank you for everything," so he concluded.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Katy wanted to "quit" the show over concern of being misrepresented by the series. According to Daily Mail, the 38-year-old pop star felt she had been repeatedly "thrown under the bus by the producers."

The fiancee of Orlando Bloom additionally believed that the FOX show's edit made her appear to be a "nasty judge." The mom of one was allegedly concerned that it will affect her career.
