The 'Blinding Lights' hitmaker makes an appearance with his co-star Lily-Rose Depp and director Sam Levinson at the May 23 photocall event taking place during the film festival.

AceShowbiz - The Weeknd was not shying away from the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. One day after the premiere of his new series "The Idol", the "Double Fantasy" singer made an appearance in the photocall at the prestigious event in France.

On Tuesday, May 23, the 33-year-old singer was spotted at Palais des Festivals in Cannes, France along with his co-star Lily-Rose Depp and director Sam Levinson. He could be seen posing for cameras with Lily and Sam. The trio were captured smiling and giggling.

On the occasion, The Weeknd, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, opted to wear an all-black ensemble. He sported a black leather jacket outlined with a white sewing over a back shirt. He paired them with a pair of long matching pants and a pair of chunky matching platform loafers.

His co-star, Lily-Rose, who was pictured alongside him, went with a matching all-black look. She looked stunning in a short black dress with a plunging neckline. She completed her outfit with a pair of matching shades and a pair of matching heels, and styled her blonde hair in loose curls.

The Weeknd made an appearance at Cannes despite strong criticisms that his new series "The Idol" contained too much nudity. His series was deemed too vulgar after the first two of its five episodes were shown at the film festival on Monday, May 22.

About the racy scenes, The Hollywood Reporter wrote, "Rarely does a scene go by without the camera showing flashes of her breasts or a**. You start to wonder if this is building to anything, and by episode two it seems likely that it's probably not."

Sharing similar sentiment, Variety reviewed, "Revenge porn photos of bodily fluids on Depp's face, masturbation with ice cubes, nightclub-owning scam artists and vile Hollywood sycophants populated the first two episodes of the already-controversial series."

Also voicing strong opinion against "The Idol" was one Twitter user who tweeted, "Ep 2 is straight up pornographic there's an entire 10 minute scene of The Weeknd talking dirty to Lily-Rose while she fingers herself for him, then he tells her to suck his c**k and she gives him head. The worst part is that Sam Levinson originally wanted that scene to be longer too."
