'NYPD Blue' Child Actor Austin Majors Dies at 27 From Possible Fentanyl Poisoning

Best known for his role as Theo Sipowicz on the series, the actor was described as a 'loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being' by his family in a statement in the wake of his death.

AceShowbiz - Austin Majors, who was best known for his role on "NYPD Blue", died at the age of 27 on Saturday, February 11 in Los Angeles. His death was confirmed by L.A. county Medical Examiner-Coroner.

His sister Kali additionally paid tribute to the late actor in a Facebook post. "My big brother, Austin, is gone. He died last night. It's so surreal to me still. He was only 27 with so much life left to live," so she wrote.

In a statement to TMZ, Austin's family described Austin as a "loving, artistic, brilliant, and kind human being." It continued, "Austin took great joy and pride in his acting career. He was an active Eagle Scout and graduated Salutatorian in High School. He went on to graduate from USC's School of Cinematic Arts with a passion of directing and music producing."

"Austin's younger sister, Kali, says her fondest memories with Austin were growing up on set with him, volunteering at events with 'Kids With a Cause,' and backpacking together. Austin was the kind of son, brother, grandson, and nephew that made us proud and we will miss him deeply forever," the family concluded.

TMZ reported that Austin died while staying at a homeless housing facility in Los Angeles. While the cause of death is still under investigation, a source told the news outlet Austin might have "ingested a fatal amount of fentanyl."

Austin, who also went by Austin Majors Setmajer-Raglin, played Theo Sipowicz, the son of Detective Andy Sipowicz (Dennis Franz), for 7 seasons on "NYPD Blue". Thanks to the role, he won the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a Television Series in 2002.

His other small screen credits included "According to Jim", "ER", "Threshold", "NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service", "Desperate Housewives", "American Dad!" and "How I Met Your Mother". He also appeared in some movies, including "Treasure Planet", "The Price of Air", "Little Manhattan" and "The Ant Bully".
