AceShowbiz - Flavor Flav has gotten candid about his past drug addiction. When appearing on the "Off the Record with DJ Akademiks" podcast, the emcee admitted that he used to spend up to $2,600 a day on drugs for "six years straight."
During the interview, the 63-year-old first revealed, "I kinda kept it hidden... A lot of people, you know, didn't really know. They were trying to figure it out [like], 'Yo, is he on something?' and the whole nine." He added, "Because I never really let people know exactly what I was doing."
Flav said he "started letting people know what I was doing when I was getting tired of being like that." He further explained, "There's a point and time in life where you get tired of doing s**t… Mainly when it doesn't get you no place."
"There was a time that I was spending $2,400 to $2,600 a day... for six years straight, you do the math," the Public Enemy founding member continued. "That's how much I spent on drugs."
Flav went on to confess that he "sold a lot. But I was my best customer." Luckily managed to quit abusing substances and start his sobriety journey in 2020.
"I guess God wanted me to live. And he knows that I'm a mouthpiece to the world," the rap star stated. "So, I feel that God let me live through that, so that way, I could teach people about the mistakes that I made. And hopefully, they won't make them later on in life."
Flav, who said he'd been on" coke and crack, weed, alcohol, cigarettes - for 18 years straight," disclosed that he's "been clean now, off of that s**t, for the last 15 years." He detailed, "I haven't done coke and crack man for the last 15 years. Not only that but I'm proud to say that I haven't drunk alcohol in the last two and a half years. I haven't smoked cigarettes in the last two and a half years. So I've been clean and sober. I still smoke my weed."
