The rapper hopes by sharing his story, those who hit the rock bottom will feel less alone as he says, 'Me sharing my testimony - if it doesn't help, it might let you know you’re not the only one going through it.'

AceShowbiz - Ab-Soul has opened up about one of his darkest moments. In a new interview, the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper suggested that he survived a suicide attempt.

The 35-year-old emcee, whose real name is Herbert Anthony Stevens IV, made the honest confession when sitting down with Rolling Stone. He admitted that he nearly took his own life after writing much of his album.

"Most of what you've heard, I wrote before … it," the Los Angeles-born artist explained. "I just wanna make it clear: You see me smiling, but it's not funny. I think that's just my way of healing from it."

Ab-Soul hopes by sharing his story, those who hit the rock bottom will feel less alone. "Me sharing my testimony - if it doesn't help, it might let you know you’re not the only one going through it," he said. "That's what ultimately gives me the courage to put it out there."

Ab-Soul said he wouldn't mind if people use his new album, "Herbert", as a way to heal from their own issues. The album itself is set to be released on December 16 and includes appearances from Big Sean, Russ, Joey Bada$$, Jhene Aiko, SiR Punch, Zacari, Fre$h, Ambre, ALEMEDA and Lance Skiiiwalker.
