AceShowbiz - Fans were left upset after watching an episode of "Celebrity Jeopardy!". The said episode, which aired on Sunday night, November 13, included a clue about Brian Laundrie, who confessed in his journal to murdering fiancee Gabby Petito in 2021 before killing himself.
John Michael Higgins, Wil Wheaton and Joel Kim Booster, who served as the contestants of the episode, were given a clue that read, "In 2021, fugitive Brian Laundrie ended his days in Fla.'s Myakkahatchee Creek area, home to these long & toothy critters." The answer was alligators and Booster answered correctly.
Upon watching the outing, viewers were shocked and mad for the disrespectful clue with one of them tweeting, "I'm kinda shocked that Jeopardy used Brian Laundrie, the murderer from FL, in a clue about alligators. I'm pretty sure they could have used better judgment and gotten that answer another way. Bad taste @Jeopardy."
"Not celebrity @jeopardy using Brian Laundrie as a clue for alligators. That's so distasteful and wrong could've used anything else for a clue," one other viewer said. Another critic wrote, "Wow @Jeopardythat Brian Laundrie clue was in bad taste. You could have gotten to 'alligator' any other way. Why bring him up? Gross."
Another fan fumed, "You use Brian Laundrie, a guy who murdered poor Gabby Petito, as a clue? What in the hell is wrong with you? Have you no soul?" adding that they "can't believe this question got past your lawyers."
Steven P. Bertolino, the attorney for the Laundrie Family, also reacted to the "Jeopardy!" clue. "The entire Laundrie family is appalled and concurs with all of the comments on social media on how distasteful this was. I believe an apology is due," the attorney said.
Gabby and Brian were traveling together on a van life journey across the United States when her family reported her missing on September 11, 2021 and news of her disappearance captured the attention of the country. Her body was found on September 19 at the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in Wyoming's Bridger-Teton National Forest. The Teton County Coroner's Office ruled Gabby died from blunt force trauma and strangulation.
As for Brian, he returned home alone while Gabby was missing. He was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a nature preserve in Sarasota County, Florida. In a notebook that was found near his body, he admitted to killing Gabby, insisting it was an act of "mercy" after she suffered a head injury in a fall.
