AceShowbiz - Quinta Brunson let everyone know that she holds no grudge against Jimmy Kimmel over his antics at the 2022 Emmy Awards. While many people were mad at the TV host for "playing dead" during her acceptance speech, the "Abbott Elementary" star said wasn't bothered by it.
The 32-year-old addressed the matter backstage. "I don't know I know Jimmy Kimmel. The bit didn't bother me," she declared. "Honestly, Jimmy gave me my first big late-night spot, he was one of the first people to see 'Abbott Elementary'."
"He was the first person to message me on Instagram. He was so excited it was going to be on ABC. I was happy it was Jimmy. He's one of the comedy godfathers," the actress added. She then joked, "Tomorrow maybe I'll be mad at him. I'm going to be on his show on Wednesday, so I might punch him in the face."
At the Monday, September 12 event, Quinta won the Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series. Her category was presented by Jimmy and Will Arnett, who quipped that the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host "got into the skinny margaritas" after losing in an earlier category.
After Quinta was announced as the winner, Jimmy stayed flat on the ground near the microphone stand, prompting her to exclaim, "Jimmy, wake up. I won!" The 54-year-old comedian, however, remained there until Quinta finished her speech. After nearly two minutes, Will finally pulled Jimmy's body offstage.
While Quinta didn't mind with Jimmy's act, many Twitter users took issue with it. "Quinta Brunson deserved better than giving her acceptance over Jimmy Kimmel's 'dead' body," one user argued. "He is such a jerk. She'll never get that moment back and he can never make it up to her. He just needs to quit his job already and fade away," another fumed.
Jimmy has yet to address the backlash.
