The member of hip-hop group Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five receives the hefty sentence after he's found guilty of stabbing a homeless man to death in 2017.

AceShowbiz - Kidd Creole has received a hefty sentence for a 2017 murder. The musician, whose real name is Nathaniel Glover, has been sentenced to 16 years behind bars for killing a homeless man in New York City.

Manhattan D.A. Alvin L. Bragg Jr. handed down the sentence on Wednesday, May 4. He also ordered that the rap legend be under post-release supervision for 5 years after he walks free from state prison.

"A life is a life, whether the person is homeless, whether the person is a CEO," Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Michele Rodney said at the sentencing. "Within seconds … Mr. Jolly's life was changed forever."

Rodney also didn't buy the defense's argument that Creole acted in self-defense because the victim was a sex offender. "You didn't know him," she told Creole. "You didn't know that he had a [history of] violence or was a sexual offender. Those things were not known and don't have much relevance in terms of anybody's action in this case."

Creole's lawyer Scottie Celestin was "disappointed" by the outcome of the trial. "I think today's sentence is egregious and extreme," he said after the sentencing, announcing plans to appeal. "While I am disappointed, I continue to have faith in our judicial system. My focus is now on the appeal process."

"There are many appealable issues, specifically the denial of Mr. Glover being able to assert the justification of self defense, despite the fact that he was retreating and the victim followed behind him," he added. "I am fully confident this verdict will be reversed on appeal. While some would be happy with the presumed victory of the acquittal on the top charge of murder, we don't view it as win."

Celestin continued, "I believe the 16 years given are heavy handed, and motivated not by the evidence and mitigating facts but by external factors." He also criticized the judge as saying, "I think how the judge handled this case….I think she steered the case and it's going to come back."

Meanwhile, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said to ABC7 New York, "Mr. Jolly's death was devastating to his family and those who knew him. Every life we lose to violent crime ripples throughout our entire city, and we will continue to ensure everyone in our borough can live their lives with the sense of safety and security they deserve."

The D.A. added, "This case makes clear that if you commit violent crime, we will hold you accountable, and I thank our team for their hard work achieving justice in this matter."

Back in April, Creole was found guilty of stabbing a homeless NYC man to death on August 1, 2017. The Hall of Famer, who worked as a handyman and security guard in midtown Manhattan at the time, was heading to his maintenance job when 55-year-old John Jolly, whom the rapper had never met before, approached him on the streets and said, "What's up?"

Creole thought Jolly was gay and hitting on him. That precipitated the confrontation, during which the 62-year-old man, who is regarded as one of the pioneers of old school hip hop, pulled out a steak knife and stabbed John twice in the chest.
