The 'This Is Paris' star has been leading the charge to rewrite federal regulations after opening up about her 'hellish' experiences at Utah's Provo Canyon School when she was a teenager.

AceShowbiz - Paris Hilton has recruited a group of congressional politicians to her cause as she seeks new U.S. federal regulations to prevent the abuse of children in facilities for troubled teens.

The reality TV star is leading the charge to rewrite the rule book regarding boarding schools and similar institutions after opening up about her "hellish" experiences at Utah's Provo Canyon School when she was a teenager.

Paris claims she was subjected to physical abuse, forced to take medication, and stripped of her human rights while she attended the school and her efforts so far have brought about new legislation and changes in five U.S. states.

Now, she has more politicians supporting her following a visit to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday morning (October 20).

California representative Ro Khanna has confirmed he is drafting legislation that would give children in youth facilities the right to call their parents, be free from restraints, and have access to clean drinking water and nutritional meals after meeting with Paris. None of these are regulated in facilities nationwide.

"The multibillion-dollar troubled teen industry has been able to mislead parents, school districts, child welfare agencies and juvenile justice systems for decades," Hilton said. "The reason is a systemwide lack of transparency and accountability."

In an op-ed article for The Washington Post this week, she claimed she was choked, slapped, spied on while showering, and deprived of sleep while attending Provo Canyon.

"There are thousands of these types of schools and there is almost 200,000 children every year put into these places," Paris shared. "And every day, children are being physically, emotionally, verbally, psychologically and sexually abused."
