AceShowbiz - "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" is heading back to the Broadway stage as a condensed version of the original two-part play due to logistical issues.
The hit show, written by Jack Thorne from an original story by J.K. Rowling, the brains behind the boy wizard franchise, was first introduced to theatre fans in New York in 2018 as a lengthy production, with each part featuring a run time of over two hours and 30 minutes.
However, following the COVID-19 shutdown, producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender have decided to revamp the play and deliver a "reimagined version", courtesy of Thorne and director John Tiffany, for its reopening at the Lyric Theatre on November 16.
In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Friedman and Callender reflected on the "unprecedented moment in theatre history" and said, "Given the challenges of remounting and running a two-part show in the U.S. on the scale of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the commercial challenges faced by the theatre and tourism industries emerging from the global shutdowns, we are excited to be able to move forward with a new version of the play that allows audiences to enjoy the complete Cursed Child adventure in one sitting eight times a week."
"We've been working hard on this new version throughout lockdown and it's been a joyous process of rediscovery. It has given us a unique opportunity to look at the play with fresh eyes, and we have been inspired by the entire creative team every step of the way."
"Harry Potter and the Cursed Child", which is set almost two decades after the story of 2007 novel "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows", claimed six prizes at the 2018 Tony Awards, including Best Play.
